My extended family that included Patsi Bale Cox
When I first got online to AOL in 1995 I found a Country Music chat room. After a few months I got to message boards and found a group of folks talking about music being overlooked by shorter playlist. Patsi was our charter member from Nashville. While her position a few years earlier was working with Garth Brooks as times changed she shared with us stories of writers etc including Gretchen Peters. In exchange other folks in that folder were talking about some great bands who were based in Austin. I mostly soaked it in and gave my thoughts based on what I had in my country classic collection.
These were the folks I shared the excitement of my first solo musical roadtrip to Las Vegas in 1996 and my early trips to Texas. We also shared the passing of many country legends from Bill Monroe through the rough year of 1998.
Patsi was one of the few folks I got back with over the last few years on Facebook. I was in Nashville a couple weeks before her passing and we wanted her at the party but I did not know the extet of her condition.
No Bus of Real Country does not play Garth Brooks music but we have and will continue to support the lesser heard acts of more genuine country and bluegrass.
With kudos to my buddy Cornell Hurd who sometimes .introduced his band as Garth Brooks Worst Nightmare.

"25 Minutes To Go" Johnny Cash
It's been 44 years since Johnny Cash took a troupe including recording equipment to Folsum Prison for this masterpiece. 1968 was Johnny's comeback in many ways including his wedding to June Carter.
"Who Will Be the First" Justin Trevino
Justin was one of the acts I saw on my first visit to Austin in 1997. He's been making his own albums since 1998 and even with blindness runs his own studio in Brady TX where he does most of the production for Tracy Pitcox's label Heart of Texas Music. I'm not in touch these days but we had some interesting chats and I was present for a radio broadcast in 2001.

A local band in the modern world music promotion
Andy Vaughn and Driveline
So one of my Austin contacts Jerry Renshaw moves to Richmond Va then back to Nashville. He hooks up with Andy Vaughn who put a band together and recorded some nice original Honky Tonk material. When I was offered a promo for BRC I took it and have programmed 2 tracks over the past 6 months. To keep the momentum up the band used a Kickstarter campaign to fund their 2nd album. Jerry is commuting as needed to be with the band. They have gotten some decent local press and have traveled as far as Wash DC.
Looking forward to seeing them as they do a mid Texas tour during my visit to Austin.

Welcome to 2012 on BRC
It's been a year since I was able to upgrade my LIVE 365 account to a plan with more access and a more reasonable cost by joining a coop. (1) In January I got more playlist space and in mid March an Itunes listing under country. Listening hours increased over 200 percent. New releases have been outstanding for new Americana/Honkytonk Acts, Country Legends and particularly Bluegrass. (2)(3). It was also the year I lost my job at the Bus Company and have been busy taking care of my mother and the related housework.
Our first change this year is the addition of Del McCoury's Blue Side of Town Radio Hour which can be heard Wednesday evenings at 10pm and Thursday mornings at 10am Eastern. I may consider other such programing. and also want to try some PSA's. We are always on the lookout for new groups to support such as Andy Vaughn and Driveline(4). Looking forward to travel this year including Austin, Nashville, my summer Bluegrass fix and hopefully Arizona for a friends birthday in November.
Thanks to all our fans artist and promoters as we continue to entertain in these changing digital times
1. My regret to stations that did not get that option this year.
2. Looking at the end of year lists for Bluegrass there were very few acts I did not program.
3. Thanks to folks who use Airplay Direct so we don't have to bug you for promos.
4. Another blog entry coming
